Update

I went to the doctor today for the ultrasound and the baby is still breech. I am going in tomorrow at 10:30 and they will try to move the baby manually. If successful, they will induce. If unsuccessful, then I will have a c-section. So by tomorrow or Sunday our new baby will be here!

Time for Gymnastics

I went to the doctor today for the fetal non-stress test and an ultrasound to check the level of amniotic fluid. Before we continue, let me assuage your concerns - the baby is healthy and doing fine, but let's just say not cooperating.

The fetal non-stress test went fine. They hooked two straps to my stomach and two monitors and recorded the baby's heart rate for about 30 minutes.

During my exam I asked the doctor if the baby was in the right position (head down) and he said he thought so, but that we would check during the ultrasound. Well what do you know - guess who is not in the right position and is BREECH???????

Much to my dismay the big lump in my right side is not the baby's tush, but is really the head!! Mike will be happy - we do have soccer player on our hands after all - I haven't been getting punched in the pelvis, I've been getting kicked!

At my hospital, first time moms who are presenting breech are required to deliver via c-section.

I already had an appointment with the acupuncturist scheduled for this evening and I know he has a treatment for breech babies that is pretty successful. I have already spoken with him today and he is going to change the treatment tonight.

Oh and by the way - Rita totally called it. I was talking to her last night and told her that the baby's heartbeat can be found around my belly button (when the baby is in the correct position, the heartbeat is heard in the lower part of the abdomen below the belly button) and she then asked me if I felt like I was sitting on a bowling ball (OUCH!) which I totally do not feel and then she said the baby might be breech.

I am a mix of emotions right now. I do not want a c-section, but may not have any choice. I am frustrated that none of the four or five different doctor's I have seen over that last month and a half correctly identified the breech position. And I am exhausted.

A healthy baby is all that matters (but, in all honesty, perspective isn't my strong suit right now!).

Baby Watch

So baby watch continues...I am officially 3 days late. I had my first of three consecutive acupuncture appointments yesterday. Lots of kicking going on, but the baby doesn't seem to be heading south. I can't be certain of course, but that is just my general feeling. I head back this afternoon.

It has been hard to stay busy of late. We seem to have done everything we were going to do with the nursery, around the house, shopping etc. I have transitioned all of my work to a co-worker so coming into the office pretty boring too. I spend a lot of time reading the news online and looking at different baby announcements. Yesterday I did keep myself busy for 3 hours decorating our guest bathroom. I bought vinyl wall appliques to decorate the nursery and also bought some for the guest bathroom months ago. I finally got around to putting them up in the bathroom and they are super cool. I haven't taken any pictures, but here they are online.

These are the ones in the guest bathroom.

And these are the ones we bought for the nursery. The nursery ones aren't up yet though. We are waiting until we have the furniture delivered to decide where they will all go. We ordered the turtle, elephant and giraffe.

No News...

So they say now news is good news. Well when you are 39 weeks and 5 days pregnant, no news is more like frustrating news. We went to the doctor yesterday and well there was no news. In her words the baby is SUPER high and without going into all the anatomical details, ain't nothing going on down below that indicates the baby is coming soon. Now yes, things can change over night and all the books warn you not to put too much emphasis on these internal exams because they can be frustrating. But hey - that's all I got to go on right?

I went to the acupuncturist Sunday night and he did change up my treatment and get more aggressive. I have made appointments with him for three days in a row (8/19, 8/20 and 8/21). When his patients are overdue he treats them three days in a row and typically the woman does not make it to the third appointment because she is in labor. So that is my next plan of action...

Mike has been a saint, putting up with my moodiness. He has definitely embraced his role as a birth partner and I am grateful for that!

Doula Update

Mike and I met with Tara on Sunday. Tara is Rita's back-up doula. We definitely liked her. I found her to have a very calming presence. And she had some great questions that none of the other doulas asked. So we are set on using Rita and Tara as a back up.

My goal was to make it to August 1 which I have accomplished. Now that I have passed this milestone I feel a sense of accomplishment and can relax a bit. For the most part I still feel good (despite the heat) but I think I am ready for the baby to arrive. I am looking forward to the birth experience and of course to starting our family.

We'll keep you updated!

Hot, Hot, Hot!

It is hot in Chitown! The high today is 95. The high for the past 3 days has been 95! To say that I am uncomfortable is really being polite. I am drinking Gatorade and trying to keep hydrated.

I had a doctor's appointment Tuesday afternoon. No real news to report. The doctor said I look good and to just hang in there. They think the baby is "bigger than average" for whatever that is worth.
